Job Description

Avalon Malibu is seeking a Business Development Manager to expand the Residential Treatment Center referral network through trusted partnerships and a consultative, relationship-first approach. This hybrid role is based in Malibu, California, and focuses on building durable relationships that support Avalon Malibu's RTC program.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and sustain long-term referral partnerships with a broad network including therapists, psychiatrists, psychologists, interventionists, concierge physicians, case managers, alumni professionals, attorneys, HR and EAP leaders, as well as selected corporate and community partners
  • Deliver consistent, high-quality outreach through in-person meetings, presentations, tours, and partner education sessions
  • Collaborate with Admissions and Clinical leadership to ensure accurate program representation, appropriate fit, and seamless handoffs
  • Develop and manage account plans for priority partners, incorporating re-engagement and retention strategies
  • Maintain a clear, measurable CRM pipeline; monitor outreach activities, tours, referral patterns, and conversion insights
  • Represent the program at conferences, community events, and professional association meetings
  • Provide market intelligence including competitor insights, referral feedback, payer trends, and partnership opportunities to refine messaging and service delivery

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in business development, clinical outreach, referral relations, or strategic partnerships within behavioral health, healthcare, concierge medicine, or similar high-trust environments
  • A consultative partnerships mindset that emphasizes education, alignment, and problem solving without high-pressure selling
  • Solid understanding of the RTC continuum of care and referral ecosystems, or the ability to learn quickly
  • Comfort discussing private-pay positioning and insurance access with accuracy and discretion
  • Excellent follow-up discipline and communications across email, phone, and in-person interactions
  • CRM fluency
  • Ability to travel locally for meetings and events; valid driverโ€™s license

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: USD 120,000 to 150,000 annually

Additional compensation: performance incentives, travel support, benefits, and paid time off (PTO).

Week in the Life

  • 8 to 12 partner meetings (in-person or virtual) with targeted referral sources
  • One facility tour or program introduction for clinicians, interventionists, or professional partners
  • One partner education touchpoint such as micro-training, lunch and learn, case consult availability, or resource share
  • Daily coordination with Admissions regarding fit, availability, and referral experience standards
  • Two to three hours per week dedicated to CRM hygiene and reporting (pipeline stages, notes, follow-ups, and next steps)
  • One community or professional event per month, or a hosted partner gathering

  • Growth in qualified RTC inquiries aligned with clinical criteria
  • Expansion of active referring partners and repeat referrals from priority accounts
  • Consistent outreach activity levels and timely follow-up Completion
  • Clean, reliable CRM data with clear pipeline visibility and forecasting
  • Partner satisfaction characterized by responsiveness, clarity, and professionalism in every interaction
  • Accurate expectations for private-pay and insurance pathways without overpromising
  • Seamless and discreet admissions handoffs that are well-orchestrated
  • High-integrity representation of services, outcomes, and levels of care

Preferred Experience

  • Existing Southern California referral network in behavioral health
  • Experience with insurance workflows, verification of benefits (VOB), utilization review collaboration, or payer-aware admissions pathways
  • Experience in event strategy, public speaking, and clinician education presentations
  • Background in high-end hospitality or service environments where discretion and responsiveness are essential
